My Self-Care Routine: Glowing Skin, Relaxation & Aging Gracefully

Updated: Jan 30

If there’s one thing I will never stop obsessing over, it’s self-care and skincare. I love trying new beauty gadgets, wellness trends, and anti-aging secrets—because honestly, feeling good is just as important as looking good! My routine isn’t just about keeping my skin glowing; it’s my way of de-stressing, relaxing, and taking care of myself.

And this isn’t just a personal obsession—it’s deeply rooted in Korean culture. In Korea, self-care isn’t just about looking pretty, it’s about respecting your body, your skin, and your well-being. These values have been passed down for generations, and I feel so lucky to continue that tradition.

Step 1: Sleep is Skincare 💤

It all starts with good sleep. I don’t care how many expensive serums you use—if you’re not sleeping well, your skin will show it. That’s why I treat sleep like a ritual: silk pajamas, a cozy bed, and my favorite sleep mask to block out distractions. A full night of rest = less puffiness, fewer wrinkles, and a natural glow.

Growing up, I watched my mother and grandmother take their nighttime routines seriously. They always reminded me:

🌿 Your skin heals when you sleep—so treat it well.

🌿 Never sleep with makeup on.

🌿 Hydration is key—drink water, use a humidifier, and always apply moisturizer before bed.

These simple lessons shaped how I see skincare—not as a chore, but as a way to honor myself.

Step 2: Skincare + Technology = Magic ✨

Korea is always ahead when it comes to skincare innovation, and I love that I get to bring these techniques into my own routine. Right now, I’m obsessed with:

🔹 LED light therapy masks – Red light to fight aging, blue light to keep skin clear.

🔹 Facial sculpting wands – Helps tone and lift the jawline (because gravity is real!).

🔹 Cooling face rollers – Perfect for reducing puffiness and waking up tired skin.

I remember my halmoni (grandmother) using jade rollers long before they became a “trend.” She taught me that facial massage isn’t just about beauty—it’s about circulation, relaxation, and keeping skin healthy from the inside out.

Step 3: Face Yoga & Lymphatic Drainage 💆‍♀️

Skincare isn’t just what you put on your face—it’s also how you treat it. In Korea, lymphatic massage and facial exercises are just as important as serums and creams. I’ve been loving:

✔️ Face yoga to keep my skin firm naturally

✔️ Gua sha and massage to improve blood flow

✔️ Lymphatic drainage techniques to reduce puffiness and define my features

These practices have been around for centuries, and they’re still a huge part of Korean beauty culture today. Five minutes a day, and the results are so worth it.

Step 4: Coffee + Wellness = My Morning Ritual ☕

Every morning, I sit down with my iced coffee (because caffeine is life) and take time for myself. Whether it’s journaling, stretching, or just enjoying a quiet moment, this is my reset button before the day gets busy.

In Korea, wellness isn’t just about skincare—it’s about balance. My mom always told me:

🥗 What you eat shows on your skin.

🌞 A slow morning makes for a peaceful day.

💧 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

So even though I live in the U.S. now, I still hold onto these small habits.

Aging Gracefully, My Way

I don’t believe in "anti-aging"—I believe in aging well. Taking care of my skin, body, and mind isn’t about chasing youth, it’s about feeling my best at every stage of life.

In Korea, aging is seen differently. There is so much wisdom and beauty in growing older, and self-care is just a way to honor that process. I love seeing my mom and aunts still taking care of their skin, not because they’re trying to look younger but because it’s part of who they are.

So yes, I’ll keep trying new serums, high-tech skincare tools, and beauty hacks—because self-care isn’t vanity, it’s self-love. 💖
